Changes That May Affect You

While the coronavirus presents new challenges, one thing has not changed, our commitment to you, our customer.

COVID-19 and Biological Indicators

COVID-19 and Biological Indicators

Mesa Labs realizes that due to the COVID-19 pandemic there may be a new or increased need for decontamination of critical medical items, surfaces, and work spaces that require intense decontamination. Hydrogen peroxide is a highly effective sterilizing agent, routinely used for the decontamination/sterilization of surfaces. According to the World Health Organization’s interim guidance on laboratory biosafety guidance related to the novel coronavirus, hydrogen peroxide is an "Appropriate disinfectant with proven activity against enveloped viruses . . . ".

Mesa’s Apex and Exposure product lines provide the highest quality biological indicators for monitoring the efficacy of hydrogen peroxide sterilization   systems.Biological indicators are considered the “gold standard” for demonstrating a decontamination or sterilization process’s ability to inactivate high numbers of highly resistant microorganisms, including viruses.

Mesa’s Apex line of biological indicators is appropriate for use in vapor phase hydrogen peroxide decontamination processes performed at atmospheric pressure. A study performed by Battelle has shown this type of process to be effective at decontaminating N95 respirators up to 50 times without effecting fit or functionality. Information concerning proper placement of Apex biological indicators during decontamination cycles can be found in Mesa’s Spore News Vol. 9 No. 5

Mesa’s Exposure biological indicator is appropriate for use in hydrogen peroxide sterilizers, such as STERRAD® systems, which have been shown to be effective at decontaminating N95 respirators in a protocol developed by Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP).

Mesa frequently works with manufacturers of hydrogen peroxide generators who may provide assistance to you regarding equipment purchases or decontamination services, including:

During this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, extraordinary measures, such as reprocessing the N95 masks for use by healthcare providers, are required. Mesa’s Technical Support Representatives are available as always to offer assistance and guidance in biological indicator use and selection. They can be reached at or 303-987-8000 X 10042

COVID-19 and Continuous Monitoritng

COVID-19 and Continuous Monitoring Solutions

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to stress the healthcare system, Mesa Labs realizes there are new and expanding requirements for environmental monitoring solutions. Isolation rooms, quarantine zones, vaccine and sample storage, clean rooms, blood and tissue storage – all require robust monitoring solutions to ensure the safety and effectiveness of these critical environments. Mesa’s portfolio of Continuous Monitoring solutions and services provide the highest quality and reliability for monitoring critical environmental conditions, while meeting stringent requirements for regulatory compliance. To find out more about how Mesa monitoring solutions can assist your industry please see

Isolation Rooms & Quarantine Zones

Mesa monitoring solutions can be installed in minutes to monitor airflow, temperature, humidity and other environmental variables critical to airborne infection isolation rooms (AIIR) and quarantine zones to ensure safe environments for both patients and staff. Mesa offers both managed and cloud-based monitoring systems which are easily provisioned, cost efficient and highly reliant systems scalable from a single site to a large, geographically dispersed healthcare organization. To find out more about how Mesa can meet the exacting regulatory compliance issues faced by healthcare providers please see

Vaccine & Sample Storage

Proper vaccine storage and handling are important factors in preventing and eradicating many common vaccine preventable diseases. Yet, each year, storage and handling errors result in revaccination of many patients and significant financial loss due to wasted vaccines. Failure to store and handle vaccines properly can reduce vaccine potency, resulting in inadequate immune responses in patients and poor protection against disease. Let Mesa’s Vaccines for Children (VFC) compliant family of sensors ensure the efficacy of your storage items by providing real-time notification of out of specification (OOS) conditions and allowing for the rescue of stored materials before they are lost.

Blood & Plasma Storage

Blood and its plasma components are essential in therapeutic interventions. Blood and plasma are collected at body temperature, but must be cooled, transported, and stored at specified temperatures until use. Manually recording blood bank environmental conditions has the potential for inconsistent collection and inaccuracy. To find out more about how Mesa’s temperature monitoring solutions automatically record a range of information such as temperature and humidity to meet AABB standards for blood storage please see

Clean Rooms

Clean rooms are used in a range of industries such as Compounding Pharmacies, Medical and Pharmaceutical manufacturing, and Universities where environmentally controlled space is required to manage contamination. Temperature, humidity, pressurization, particle measurement and personnel access are all essential to maintain performance of a clean room environment. Mesa monitoring solutions provide maximum flexibility while ensuring strict environmental control requirements are met, maintained and documented.

COVID-19 and Quality Instruments

COVID-19 and Quality Instruments

Mesa Labs manufactures several precision measurement instruments that are used as calibration standards by medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers. High-accuracy, NIST-traceable calibration and validation instruments are an integral part of medical device and drug manufacturing, as they ensure the quality of the end product and its packaging.

Mechanical ventilators have been identified as a crucial treatment for pneumonia and acute respiratory distress caused by COVID-19. Ventilators deliver a precise amount of oxygen and air to the patient who is unable to get enough oxygen on their own. Ensuring that the ventilators are performing at the correct flow is critical to ensuring patient safety. Mesa Labs manufactures high-accuracy metrology standards that are used by ventilator manufacturers to ensure that their ventilators are performing at the correct flow at the factory.

COVID-19 test manufacturers must not only be concerned with the accuracy of their tests, but that the test can make it to the patient and back to the lab intact with no contamination. Packaging is a crucial variable in maintaining test efficacy while in transport from manufacturer to patient to lab. Torque analyzers ensure that test caps are properly closed to avoid contamination.

Shipping Information

As part of our continued commitment to you, we wanted to inform you of possible changes to your order delivery details that may occur during this time. Clearly, we are in unprecedented times and businesses are doing everything they can to keep operating as usual.

The good news, FedEx has no plans to suspend services at this time, and we have not heard any indication that DHL or UPS will either. However, due to COVID-19 and the need for social distancing, FedEx, UPS, and DHL may waive signatures at delivery to protect their employees and customers. This means that parcels and packages may be left at front doors or in facility lobbies. We understand that this may require a bit more vigilance from your staff for receiving shipments, so we recommend communicating this information to your teams, and suggest contacting your local delivery providers to understand how best to receive your deliveries to ensure they are not misplaced, misdirected or stolen.

We are continuously staying up-to-date on any changes from all our shipping providers, and we will reach out to you immediately when more information becomes available.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out. We are doing everything in our power to make this time as smooth as possible.
